The Southwestern Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders (SWPONL) is a non-profit, personal membership society which promotes excellence in the practice of nursing administration. This is accomplished by:
Providing regularly scheduled networking opportunities for nurse leaders
Supporting research in nursing administration
Advancing the practice of nursing administration
Pursuing collaborative relationships with affiliated organizations
SWPONL was established in 1975 as the Forum for Hospital Nurse Administrators. In 1986, it became a chapter of the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders (PONL.) SWPONL members have also been involved in Clinical/Advisory Recommendation Committees, formed at the request of the State Board of Nursing. As a group, SWPONL has responded to state legislation and regulation when appropriate, and actively monitors policy issues. SWPONL currently has more than 200 members.
